Travel and Collecting Trips
Boston Malacological Club members and families travel around the world to study and to collect mollusks. Individuals have travelled to most of the oceans of the world but local field trips are particularly popular. You would be surprised at the amazing and beautiful specimens that can be found on beaches from Maine to Cape Cod. Members often travel to many localities in Florida where shells abound. Members and non-members are welcome to join in on these exciting adventures. There is nothing more exciting than walking along a beach after a storm to see the what the sea has tossed ashore.
BMC Summer Outing - June 14, 2026 - Picnic on the shores of Buzzards Bay, Tour of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Visitor Center, Marine Biological Visitors Center, and highlights of the Woods Hole waterfront
We had perfect weather, bright sun and a cool coastal breeze, for a return to the coast of Cape Cod. About 20 BMC members and guests had a hearty lunch at the lovely coastal home of Kevin Murphy’s family in Pocasset by Barlows Landing where we were graciously hosted by Kevin’s father. Members brought delicious snacks, and prepared sandwiches were served thanks to Martha, George, and Val. Members enjoyed the food, conversation, view, and wonderful atmosphere. Two BMC adventurers waded in the coastal shallows next to the landing and brought back a nice collections of local mollusks. After lunch George Buckley took the group to the coastal village of Woods Hole where he led us through the WHOI visitors center and to other places in the scenic village. After the tour, some of the group went to a nearby restaurant for a light dinner and cocktails. It was a perfect start to the summer season.
